Tips for Troubleshooting a Raypak Digital Pool Heater

These 5 tips tell you everything you need to know to get your Raypak pool heater fixed

Tips for Troubleshooting a Raypak Digital Pool HeaterHaving trouble with your Raypak digital pool heater? If you’re handy, try some of these troubleshooting tips. You just might be able to improve the unit’s performance yourself. If not, you can always call The Stanley Louis Company for fast and effective Raypak pool heater repair.

Check the Power: If your Raypak pool heater isn’t working at all, the problem could be something as simple as a lack of power. Go make sure there aren’t any tripped circuit breakers in the fuse box, then check that the unit’s time clock is set to the “On” position.

Check Filters & Strainers: Problems with slow or inefficient heating, as well as overly noisy operation, can sometimes be traced back to dirty filters and strainers. Always make sure your pool’s pump strainer basket is empty and the filter is clean before proceeding to other troubleshooting or repair steps.

Clean Gas Burners: If you have a gas pool heater, dirty gas burners could be behind any issues you may have with reduced heating power. You can clean your burners yourself if you want. First, turn off the power and gas supply to the unit. Then open the front door to access the burner tray. Remove the burner tray by removing the screws that connect the tray to the frame and the gas valve to the jacket. Now you can gently clean the burners using a wire brush. This should improve the flame and provide enough combustion for reliable heating power.

Fix Your Water Chemistry: Improper water chemistry can cause more than just algae growth or eye irritation. It can also affect your digital pool heater. Scale formation can be especially problematic because it can lead to leaks. But before you get a leak, you may experience whining noises or low flow from your pool heater as a result of bad water chemistry. For the best operation of your pool heater, Raypak recommends keeping your water pH between 7.3 and 7.4 with a total alkalinity of 120 to 150 ppm and calcium of 200 to 300 ppm for any fiberglass pool heated between 68 and 88°F. The maximum salt should be 4,500 ppm and maximum dissolved solids should be 3,000 ppm.
